An event for later 2010 is being planned at the home of Dr Robert Mitchell in Newtown. A program showcasing emmerging young artists will follow a gala reception with fine wines and food. Date and details to be confirmed. (Members may remember the Music Room at Ampico Towers which displays the unique player piano and roll collection of Dennis Condon)
Dr Robert Mitchell is a Senior Chorister and soloist with Opera Australia, with whom he has sung since 1973. He has also been a soloist for the Sydney and G&L Mardi Gras Festivals, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Chamber Soloists of Sydney and the Warringah and Wollongong Symphonies. Robert holds a DipMusEd., and MCA. For his PhD he prepared a critical edition of Offenbach’s La Vie parisienne. A past state and national president of the Australian National Association of Singing Teachers, Robert has taught at Macquarie and Western Sydney Universities. He has lectured and written on a wide variety of musical subjects, teaches singing privately, adjudicates singing competitions and is chair of the Opera Australia Benevolent Fund. Robert, together with Christopher Lawrence and Peter Bassett, will be a tour leader for the Renaissance Tours program at the Hamburg Ring Cycle in April 2011.
